Bucket of Junk Contest

The third annual Johnson County Farm Bureau
Bucket of Junk Contest will be held at the Johnson County 4-H and FFA
Fair this July. Five buckets with nearly identical contents will be
available for pick-up at the Johnson County Farm Bureau office, 2130
Mormon Trek Blvd, Iowa City, IA 52246. The phone number is (319)

Rules
1. Anyone over the age of 18 years old is eligible to enter on a
first-come, first-served basis. 4-H clubs and FFA chapters may enter the
contest under their leaders’ supervision. A five gallon bucket of unique
pieces, otherwise known as "junk," will be provided.
2. Buckets will be available at the Johnson County Farm Bureau building
at 8:00 am on Thursday, March 1, 2007. A $5.00 deposit will be required,
which will be refunded when the buckets are turned in at the Fair.
Contestants will be checked periodically to monitor their progress and
answer questions. If their project has not been started by May 1st, the
bucket will be reclaimed and the deposit will be refunded. The bucket
will then be made available to another contestant.
3. Contestants will be allowed to clean, sand, weld, glue, cut, bolt,
fasten, bend, shape, paint, or finish the items that are provided, BUT
no pieces can be added.
4. The goal is to use all of the items in the bucket (but not the
bucket).
5. Completed “junk” is due at the Heritage Barn by noon, Monday, July
23rd. Judging will occur at that time. After the judging the entries
will be displayed at the Heritage Barn where they will be sold via a
silent auction. The results of the judging will be sealed until after
the silent auction is completed.
Entries will be judged on artistic merit, technical merit, and percent
of pieces used in its creation. Entries will be auctioned via a silent
auction at the Heritage Barn throughout the fair until 3 pm on Thursday,
July 26th. The results of the silent auction will also be used in
judging. Proceeds from the auction of the entries will go to the Johnson
County 4-H Foundation.
Prizes are:
$50 for first place
$25 for second place.
*Winners will be announced at the "Variety Tent" on Thursday July 26th
at 5 pm.
